The success of the TETRA 3D lies in the design of the inflatable bladder. Once inflated, the forward part takes the form of a tetrahedron, offering much more buoyancy where it is needed to turn a person into the correct position on their back.
Similarly if a sailor should fall overboard unconscious the extra "wings" will keep his head above water and by dint of the extra buoyancy, the TETRA 3D works really well with heavy foulweather clothing.
